Today's One-Minute Writer prompt is:  Selfless--Have you ever done a truly selfless act? Write about it if you have, or if you haven't.

I'd like to say that when I was donating plasma years ago, it was an entirely selfless act.  Alas, I was a poor student at the time and it was a way of helping and making extra money.

Today's One-Minute Writer prompt is:  Feedback--We haven't had a lot of responses on The One-Minute Writer lately, so it's time again for me to ask for your feedback and suggestions. I can't implement all suggestions, but I will appreciate all of them! I'm looking forward to your 60 seconds of feedback--thanks!

I found your site almost two weeks ago and I am loving it! I have been trying to journal daily for years and your site has helped me do it.  I've been journaling daily for that entire two weeks! Thanks for the fun and the accountability.  I have no suggestions for your improvement.  I think you're great the way you are!

If you are reading this, I encourage you to check out The One-Minute Writer.  If you're needing a little boost to your daily writing, this will definitely do the trick!

ROW80 Check-In 5-29-11 and Journaling...Goodbye

Still doing great on the daily journaling.  The One-Minute Writer has really helped me be accountable to my journaling.  Friday was the Friday Fiction prompt and I thought I wrote a particularly creative one. You can check it our HERE.

One of my daily goals is to read books on the craft within my 1 to 1 1/2 hours time frame.  I received a new writing book from BookMooch, Writing the Natural Way by Gabriele Lusser Rico.  I can't wait to dig into this one.  I think it will help me to overcome my insecurities.  Here is the book description from Goodreads:

For those who yearn to write but falter at the sight of a blank page, the unique, student-proven techniques in Writing the Natural Way will help unlock natural writing style and storytelling abilities. First published in 1983, this popular classic has been revised with five completely new chapters and a wealth of field-tested exercises.

Since 1973, Dr. Gabriele Rico has pioneered a dramatically different approach to writing that releases creative potential by tapping a rarely accessed part of the brain. Writing easily, meaningfully, and spontaneously is a simple matter of flowing with, rather than resisting, the mind's natural cooperative rhythms. By abolishing formal rules and quelling the painful inner critic, Writing the Natural Way helps writers of all levels acquire the spontaneity and ease of uninhibited self-expression.

Regarding summer and the kids being out of school, I'm hoping my husband will help pick up some slack.  He works afternoons so he is home during the day.  I will probably leave a couple or few days a week and go to the library where I won't be bothered.  Ahhhh, bliss!

1 to 1.5 hours daily:
--researching WIP
--reading books on the craft, even if only one page
--journal daily

I moved to Nashville in 1991 and my mom still lived in Michigan.  She would come visit me once or twice a year and I would visit her at least once a year, but every time we had to say goodbye, it was the hardest thing.  I'm really close with my mom...she's my best friend.  In 2002, I was lucky enough to have Mom move here to Nashville and now we don't have to say painful goodbyes anymore.

Take a look at other ROW80 participants' progress HERE.

Journaling...Friday Fiction: Early

The One-Minute Writer prompt for today is:  Early--Write a brief bit of fiction using the prompt

The early morning was the best time for us to set off to market.  The marketplace was deserted this early.  There was no dust flying and the stench of filth and unwashed bodies together in close proximity had not taken over the fresh air of dawn's early light.

Journaling...Running Out

Today's One-Minute Writer prompt is:  Running Out--what are you running out of?

Running out of toilet paper, running out of cat food, running out of gas, running out of ideas, running out of time...running . out . of . patience!

ROW80 Check-In 5-25-11 and Journaling....Shout

Still doing well with the journaling. I have officially journaled every day for a week now! Haven't had much time for anything else due to Armchair BEA, the read-a-thon, and a bunch of personal stuff going on.  I have officially journaled every day for a week now!
1 to 1.5 hours daily:
--researching WIP
--reading books on the craft, even if only one page
--journal daily

Today's One-Minute Manager prompt is:  Shout--Little Richard sang, "You know you make me wanna shout."  Rewrite that line of his song--and more of it if you'd like! (You know you make me wanna _______!...) Also indicate who you'd sing it to.

You know you make me want to cry.  And you know who you are.  I feel like I'm beating my head against a wall and that wall is you not realizing how much damage you're doing. (sung to anonymous)

Today's One-Minute Writer prompt is:  Job--What one thing would make you happier at your job? ("Job" includes being retired, or being a mom, or being a student, or looking for employment.)

Right now, I don't have a job outside of the home so my primary job is being a mom.  My husband went back to working second shift so I don't have any help anymore in the evenings and believe me, with two boys like mine, I need help.  Luckily, summer is almost here and my husband will be able to deal with them during the day so I can have some free time.  That will make me happier about my job!

Today's One-Minute Manager prompt is:  Genre--Imagine you are going to write a book, but it must be in a genre that you rarely read. What genre would you choose?

I rarely read urban fantasy or westerns.  So which would I choose to write?  Urban fantasy would entail writing sordid sex scenes, which is one reason that I don't read that genre much.  And westerns are totally foreign to me.  I probably should go with the western (lucky this isn't really happening)!

ROW80 Check-In 5-22-11 and Journaling...Back Up

I'm back in the swing of things, sort of! Although I didn't accomplish much on two of my goals, I am very proud to say that I ROCKED the journaling.  I journaled every day since Wednesday! Guys, this is a major accomplishment for me! I owe a debt of gratitude to C. Beth at The One-Minute Writer.  Her daily one minute writing prompts are doing wonders for my daily journaling.  (you can read today's journaling below)

So, I'm sticking with my same goals:
1 to 1.5 hours daily:
--researching WIP
--reading books on the craft, even if only one page
--journal daily

Today's One-Minute Writer prompt is:  Back Up--do you have a back up plan in case you do not fulfill one of your dreams/goals?

My dream is to be a published author.  My back up plan was pursuing a degree in my other passion, history.  Unfortunately, that was sidelined last year when my student loan funds ran out.  I do hope I will be able to find a way to continue and finish my degree.  I was SO close!

Today's One-Minute Manager prompt is:  Twist--Think of your life right now. If it was a movie or book, what could happen that would bring a twist to your plotline?

The woman sits in the chair, sadly reflecting on what has gone wrong in her family's life.  Losing the house, not able to find a job, everything financial snowballing toward a disastrous end.  She hears a knock at the door.  She answers it and it's Publisher's Clearing House....

Journaling...Friday Fiction: Nurse

Friday Fiction at The One-Minute Writer.  Today's prompt: Nurse-write a brief bit of fiction using the prompt,

The nurse crept up to the sleeping patient, syringe in hand.  Slowly, she injected the air-filled syringe into the patient's IV.  Another soul saved from suffering.

Today's One-Minute Writer prompt is:  Phrase--Write about an unusual phrase or saying one of your parents/guardians liked to say when you were growing up.

There was an after-school special about never giving up and in it, they would say to the main character, "You can do it, Duffy Moon!" My mom used to say it to us all the time...and still does!

ROW80...I'm Back!...and The One-Minute Writer

Well, I tried to make it back earlier in May, but...you know.  We did finish our moving.  Still have A LOT of unpacking to do.  We're talking 3000+ books here, people! But I'm ready to jump in again and see if I can salvage what's left of this round.

So, here are my goals once again:

Spend 1 to 1 1/2 hours daily on the following:

--researching WIP
--reading books on the craft, even if only one page
--daily journaling

Part of my journaling will be participating in this new journal prompt site I found, The One-Minute Writer.
Every day, C. Beth posts a writing prompt on the blog and we have one minute to write on it.  She even has a nifty little timer on the blog for us to use!

Today's prompt was Unexpected -write about something unexpected you experienced yesterday.  Here's what I wrote:

My son came home without his homework.  First, he said he didn't want to bring it.  Then, he said, "I didn't have time to get it!" Grrrr! It turned out that he just didn't want to get it.  More work for Wednesday!

I will be posting my One-Minute Writer journals here every day...after I've written it in my journal.

And how are you doing on your ROW80 journey?
